There is power packed into God’s Word. God’s Word brings life, light and the Holy Spirit into the situation. God’s word is the sword of the Spirit and it cuts to the heart of things. God views His Word as being holy, to the point where He exalts His Word over His name. We all have mountains to face and battles and struggles in this world. I want to talk to you about how to get through them – praying the Word of God over them. Not that I have already arrived, because I am someone who has mountains as well, and this is how I climb them. Work the Word, because the Word of God works.
Before you pray, set the mood. Think about who God is to you. Give thanks for anything that He has done in your life. Once you get started doing this, the realization of who He is and how much He has done will hit you. If you can remember God’s character, you will remember you can trust Him. He is unchanging. He does not move from His place. He is there for you 24/7/365. He is stable and eternal. He will never falter, never fail and never be late. He is the anchor in the sky that you can hang on to. He will never drop you. You can always trust God. He is the only one who can handle the brunt of what you are going through. He can take the heat of your despair.
“I will worship toward Your holy temple,
And praise Your name
For Your lovingkindness and Your truth;
For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.” (Psalm 138:2)
God’s Word is a guarantee of the end result. After you’ve vented and poured yourself out to the Lord, get up and think about your situation and your needs. What Scriptures apply to your situation? Get into the Word and work it. When I say “work it,” I mean find a Scripture from the Bible that applies God’s perspective and pray it over that situation. Ephesians 6:17 tells us to “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” We do this by praying and speaking the Word of God!
There is tremendous power packed into God’s Word. When you begin to pray and speak Gods Word over a situation, you activate and release God’s transforming power.
“Is not my word like fire,”
declares the LORD,
“and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?”
(Jeremiah 23:29)
The Word of God is alive and sharper than any sword! (Heb 4:12) When you pray and speak the Word over your situation, something supernatural takes place. His Word will accomplish what it is sent to do. His Word cuts through situations and re-establishes order. Jesus tells us that if we have faith the size of a mustard seed, we can tell the mountain to be cast into the sea and it will happen. Jesus tells us in John 6:63 that His Words are spirit and life. When you pray God’s Word over your situation, you are literally speaking spirit and life to it. Do you have any situations that need the Spirit of God to come in and bring new life?
“..the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”
Faith comes by hearing, and hearing comes by the Word of God. Some of the things we face in life require supernatural faith to overcome. If you want to be an overcomer, you’ve got to pray and speak God’s Word over that situation. Work the Word!
Saying something out loud makes it real. Even our salvation requires a spoken confession! “It’s with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved (Romans 10:10, NIV).” They are two separate organs that work together. With your heart, you believe that Jesus rose from the dead, and that makes you justified and right with God. With your mouth, you confess and are saved. It’s a mechanism that works together. Both must happen in order to function. In the same way, praying and speaking the Word are vital to victory.
Find a Scripture to stand on and pray the Word of God over yourself and that situation! Get out your sword! When you see the fruit of your words come to pass, your trust in God will be solidified. This is part of growth as a Christian. This is what Romans 5:3-4 means when it says this:
“…we glory in tribulations also, knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope..”
Trouble births patience…patience births experience…experience births hope. Experience is what you are gaining when you pray the Word of God over a situation and see it come to pass. God doesn’t tell you to speak to the mountain so you can prove yourself to Him. He already knows what you can do! God tells you to speak to the mountains in your life so YOU know what you can do in Him. The mountain is for you. When we view our problems from Gods perspective, we realize that our problems are really our opportunities. Our enemies are really our teachers.
Pick up your sword! I want to encourage you to find a Scripture and be relentless. In whatever situation you face today, you can overcome by praying and speaking the Word of God. God’s Word is a guarantee of the end result. Refuse to give up until you see God’s Word happen. Praying, speaking and standing on God’s Word releases the Holy Spirit into your situation; births new life into it; and orders things into proper alignment. When we pray God’s Word over a situation, we cannot fail!
