Like the woman who came to worship (JUST TO SAY THANK YOU TO JESUS FOR ALL HE HAD DONE) with her alabaster box in Mark 14:3-9 (NIV)— You too can change an atmosphere in your home, in the church, in your workplace, in the world… with an attitude of gratitude!
I often say, “What you appreciate, appreciates…”
She walked into a hostile environment with 1 purpose: TO SAY “THANK YOU.”
- Some think it’s Mary, the sister of Lazarus (who died and was raised from the dead by Jesus).
- Others believe it to be Mary Magdalene.
- Her life had been transformed by Jesus…
- He had delivered her from seven demons that dominated her!
- Mary totally dedicated herself to Jesus and his cause…
Either way it shows me it was a woman who is deeply appreciative and grateful to God for his goodness.
Mark 14:3-9, “While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head. Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly. “Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me. She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial. I tell you the truth, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”
She heard that Jesus was going to Simon’s house for dinner… It’s unlawful to eat with a leper.. BUT she didn’t care— SHE NEEDED TO THANK HIM!
When is the last time you didn’t care what people thought about you just so you could say “thank you Jesus”?
Like the Psalmist crying out in Psalm 138, “Thank you! Everything in me says ‘Thank You”! Angels listen as I sing my thanks. I kneel in worship facing your holy temple and say it again: ‘Thank You”!”
- I don’t care about them.
- I care about Him.
- I have to get to Him.
- I have to Praise Him!
- I have to say “thank you” to Jesus.
I can almost see her:
- She heard Jesus was going to Simons house.
- She knows this is the moment…
- She knows it’s her opportunity…
- She quickly dresses herself and moves with determination
- Somehow she comprehended that if she missed her moment, she would miss her miracle.
Anytime you know you’re in a moment (an exact point of time / an opportunity) – you’re on a mission!
Don’t allow anyone, anything to make you miss your moment!
It was this mindset that made her move like a woman on a mission. And her mission – is to see Jesus and to tell Him: “THANK YOU!” She is determined to see Him..
Determined people are
- intentional
- unstoppable
She MUST THANK HIM! Gratitude is confirmation of relationship… and she goes into an environment that is not inviting, nor well received. Not every atmosphere is welcoming of your praise and presence! WHY?
Praise has the power to penetrate and the enemy hates that!
