You are not an accident. You are not a coincidence. You are a person of purpose- which means that God placed an intention inside you before you were born, and He placed you in this particular generation because this is exactly where that intention belongs.
The question is not whether God has a plan for you. He does. The question is whether your dream for your life is as big as His dream for you- or whether you have quietly traded the fullness of your calling for something smaller: something comfortable, something familiar, something safe.
Comfort is the enemy of calling. And one of the most important things you will ever grapple with as a believer is this: there is nothing comfortable, nothing consistently safe, and nothing always appealing to your flesh about truly following Jesus. The more God reveals Himself to you, the more He will ask of you. If you are pregnant with purpose, it will not always feel good. But it will always be worth it.
Is your dream for your life as big as God’s dream for you? Or have you traded your calling for comfort?
The Problem with Being Only a Thinker, or Only a Doer
Most Christians tend to fall into one of two categories, and both, on their own, fall short of what God actually requires.
The first category is the thinker. Thinkers love theology. They can define terms, outline doctrines, and construct elaborate frameworks for Christian living. Bible study is their oxygen. Systematic theology is their delight. There is nothing wrong with any of this- the church desperately needs people who love the Word and can handle it accurately. But when the depth of your knowledge has no corresponding depth of action, something has gone wrong. You can know the entire Bible and miss the entire Bible. Knowledge that never moves you to do anything is not the kind of faith God is after.
The second category is the doer. Doers are activators. They see a problem and want to fix it. They feel the weight of injustice, the needs of the poor, the fractures in the community, and they mobilize. Their faith has hands and feet. This, too, is essential and biblical. But here is the danger: in the urgency of a cause, doers can drift from the scriptural principles that should govern how change is made. When the desire to do good outpaces the discipline of doing it God’s way, even well-intentioned action can produce harm.
God’s desire is for you to be both. A thinker and a doer. A person of deep convictions and consistent action. Someone whose theology does not stay in their head, and whose activism does not drift from Scripture.
“What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them?”
— James 2:14 (NIV)
James is not dismissing theology- he is completing it. Yes, salvation is by grace through faith. Yes, your standing before God is not earned by your works. But a faith that produces no fruit, no deeds, no changed behavior toward the world around you, James calls it dead. Not dormant. Not underdeveloped. Dead.
He makes his case with two examples. Abraham, the father of faith, was “considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar”- because his faith and his actions worked together. Faith was made complete by what he did. And Rahab, a prostitute who hid the Israelite spies, was considered righteous for what she did. Not who she had been. What she did when the moment came.
Faith and action are not in competition. They are inseparable. You show your faith by your deeds, or your faith has no way to be shown at all.
You can be full of knowledge and never be effective. You can know the entire Bible and miss the entire Bible. Faith and action must work together.
You Were Made to Bear God’s Image
Genesis establishes something foundational that shapes everything else: you are made in the image of God. This is not merely a theological statement about your origin. It is a functional declaration about your purpose.
To bear God’s image means to represent Him. To carry His character, His values, His priorities, and His presence into the spaces where you live, work, and move. It means that wherever God has placed you- in whatever city, industry, family, or community- you are His representative there. You are not just a person who happens to be a Christian. You are the image of God walking through that neighborhood, that boardroom, that school, that government office.
So the question becomes intensely practical: Are you actually bearing that image in the sphere of influence God has given you? Or have you reduced your faith to a private spiritual experience that has little to no effect on the world around you?
Habakkuk 2:14 promises that “the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.” That is not a passive statement about something God will do while you watch. It is a declaration of the trajectory of history- and you are part of how it happens. When your Christian worldview is large enough to include God in every aspect of life- in business, in art, in education, in science, in law, in relationships- then even the darkest places become subject to His transforming truth.
The Church: The Epicenter of Society
Here is a truth that the church has largely forgotten, and that the world has quietly benefited from the church forgetting: the church was never meant to be a subculture. It was never meant to be a sanctuary from society. It was meant to be the epicenter of society.
Think about the temple in ancient Israel. It was not merely a place of religious worship separated from the rest of life. The temple was the center of community- the gathering place, the place of justice, the place of commerce, the place of healing and reconciliation. All of life flowed through it. When Jesus walked in and overturned the tables of the money changers, He was not objecting to the fact that financial activity was happening near a place of worship. He was objecting to what that activity had become- the corruption of a space that was meant to serve the whole of human life under God’s authority.
The church — the blood-bought Church of Jesus Christ- is the only institution on earth authorized by God to bring true transformation. Not governments. Not NGOs. Not media platforms. Not social movements, however well-intentioned. There is no legal, social, or political entity with the spiritual authority that the local church carries when it is walking in obedience to its calling. The church changes people from the inside out, and changed people change everything around them.
This is why Jesus commissioned His disciples not to build a religion but to go into all the world- every sphere, every corner, every system, and make disciples. The gospel of Jesus Christ is not a message for Sundays. It is a message for everything.
The church is the only institution on earth authorized by God to bring true transformation- not just in a person’s life, but in every system and structure of society.
How the Church Retreated and Why It Must Advance Again
The church was not always absent from the public square. For much of the history of Western civilization, the church was deeply embedded in every dimension of society- education, care for the poor, governance, the arts, the sciences. Hospitals were built by the church. Universities were founded by the church. The abolition of slavery was led by people whose conviction was inseparable from their faith.
But somewhere along the way, the church began to retreat. Wounded by conflict, weary of controversy, and increasingly suspicious of engagement with the world, a significant segment of Christianity turned inward. The posture shifted from “we are image bearers in the earth, called to shape culture” to “we are waiting to escape the earth, so we should not be too invested in it.”
This is not a biblical posture. The return of Jesus Christ is a real and glorious promise, and every believer should live in readiness for it. But readiness does not mean passivity. The wise virgins in Matthew 25 did not sit idle because the bridegroom had not yet come. They were prepared and watchful. In the same way, you are called to be fully present and fully engaged in the work of the kingdom until the moment He arrives. If Jesus comes back tomorrow, praise God- you are ready. If He does not come back for another generation, you have not wasted your life in a corner. You have been building the kingdom of God in the earth, which is exactly where He told you to build it.
The prayer Jesus taught His disciples was not “get us out of here.” It was “Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” The kingdom of God is not only a future reality to be entered after death. It is a present reality to be established in the earth through the obedience of God’s people.
A Biblical Worldview Big Enough for Everything
The goal is not a “social gospel”, a reduced Christianity that keeps the ethical framework of Jesus while emptying it of the cross, the resurrection, and the supernatural. The goal is not social activism that borrows Christian language while departing from scriptural foundations. The goal is a biblical worldview: a way of seeing and engaging all of reality through the lens of what God has said, who Jesus is, and what His kingdom is doing in the earth.
The difference matters enormously. When your worldview is truly biblical, you do not have to choose between caring for the poor and proclaiming the gospel. You do both, because both are commanded. You do not have to choose between personal piety and public engagement. You pursue both, because both reflect the character of God. You do not have to choose between loving individuals and working to see systems aligned with justice and truth. You do all of it, because all of it is the will of God.
And you bring that biblical worldview into every sphere you occupy. Business and finance. Government and law. Education and medicine. The arts and entertainment. Technology and science. The media. These are not secular spaces that Christians must avoid in order to stay pure. They are spheres of influence that desperately need people who carry the image of God and the truth of His Word into them. When the church surrenders those spaces, the spaces do not become neutral. They become occupied by something else.
Every sector of society is either being shaped by a biblical worldview or being shaped by something that opposes it. The question is not whether these spaces will be influenced by a value system. The question is which value system will do the influencing and whether you will be part of the answer.
These are not secular spaces to be avoided. They are spheres of influence that need people who carry the image of God. When the church retreats, something else fills the void.
The Dominion Mandate- Recovered by Christ, Entrusted to You
From the very beginning, God’s intention was for humanity to bear His image and exercise dominion in the earth. Genesis 1:28 records His mandate to Adam and Eve: “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it.” This was not an invitation to exploitation. It was a commission of stewardship to represent God’s order, creativity, and goodness in every corner of creation.
When Adam fell, he did not merely lose his personal standing before God. He forfeited humanity’s dominion. The earth and its systems came under the influence of sin, and the enemy took ground that was originally intended for God’s people.
But Jesus came to recover what was lost. Through His perfect life, His death on the cross, and His resurrection, He defeated the power of sin and death and reestablished the authority that Adam had surrendered. And then He entrusted that recovered authority to His church: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go” (Matthew 28:18–19). The commission is inseparable from the authority. You go as someone carrying the authority of Jesus Christ, into every sphere, to make disciples — to bring God’s order, truth, and presence into places that have been shaped by darkness.
You are not trying to take territory that does not belong to you. You are recovering territory that was always meant to be God’s.
God Uses the Unlikely, That Means He Can Use You
Here is the thing about calling: God has never required a perfect starting point. His pattern throughout Scripture and throughout history is to take people with complicated stories, significant wounds, and every conceivable reason to be counted out, and use them to do things that more “qualified” people could not accomplish.
Think of the woman at the well, five former husbands, living with a sixth man, a member of a despised ethnic group. Jesus chose her as the person through whom an entire city would come to faith. Think of Rahab, a prostitute in a pagan city, whose act of faith saved her entire family and secured her a place in the lineage of Jesus Christ. Think of Paul, who had violently persecuted the church before becoming its most prolific missionary and theologian.
God does not choose the obviously qualified and then use them. He chooses the willing, the surrendered, and the obedient — and then makes them qualified through the process. Your past does not disqualify you. Your wounds are not a barrier. Your story, however messy, is not a liability in God’s hands. Surrendered to Him, it becomes the very thing through which He reaches people that polished, unbroken stories cannot reach.
Whatever prognosis someone gave you based on your background, your failures, your family history, or your circumstances God’s word about you carries more authority than any of it. When you find out what He says about you and decide to believe it, you become someone who cannot be stopped. Not by opposition. Not by your own past. Not by the limitations others tried to assign to you.
God does not require a perfect starting point. He requires a surrendered one. Your story, given to Him, becomes your most powerful credential.
You Are Called to Be an Ambassador
An ambassador is not a person who simply holds a title. An ambassador is a delegated representative- someone authorized to speak on behalf of, and act in the name of, the one who sent them. They carry the full weight of their sender’s authority. They represent their sender’s values, their sender’s purposes, and their sender’s message. And they do all of this in a foreign land, among people who operate by a different set of values entirely.
That is exactly what you are. You are an ambassador of the kingdom of God in the culture you inhabit. You are authorized by Jesus Christ to carry His message, bear His image, and represent His authority in every space you enter. You are not a tourist passing through. You are not a refugee hiding from the culture. You are an official representative of a kingdom that is greater than any earthly system, and you have been sent with a purpose.
This is what it means to be an agent of change based on a biblical worldview. Not cultural imposition. Not political conquest. But the steady, faithful, Spirit-empowered influence of men and women who are genuinely transformed by the gospel and who carry that transformation into every sphere they inhabit- business, government, education, arts, technology, medicine, media, family, and community.
The impact of one transformed life, fully surrendered to God and fully engaged in the world, is incalculable. The church is not a collection of people who gather to be spiritually refueled and then return to their private lives unchanged. The church is a body of ambassadors who scatter into the world each week carrying the presence, the truth, and the love of Jesus Christ into places that desperately need it.
Wake Up to What You Were Born For
There is a stirring happening right now among God’s people. Something is rising in the Spirit- a holy boldness, a settled conviction, a refusal to remain on the sidelines any longer. People who have been sitting quietly in the pews for years are beginning to feel something burning in their bones: I was born for more than this. I was born to be a world changer. I was born to make history. I was born to stand for something that lasts.
That stirring is not ambition. It is calling. It is the Holy Spirit awakening you to the assignment you were given before you drew your first breath. God knew exactly which generation you would be born into, exactly which nation, exactly which community, exactly which family, exactly which challenges. None of it was random. All of it was intentional. And all of it positions you to carry His purpose into a specific corner of the world that no one else can reach in exactly the way you can.
The world around you is being transformed at a pace that can feel disorienting. Technology, culture, information, systems- everything is shifting rapidly. What does not change is the gospel, and what does not change is your calling to carry it. The form of engagement may look different in every generation. The commission itself does not.
Stop waiting for a more convenient season. Stop waiting until you feel more prepared, more healed, more certain. The fields are not waiting. The people around you are not waiting. God is not waiting. He has already given you everything you need to begin- His Word, His Spirit, His authority, and an assignment that was designed for you specifically.
“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.”
— Habakkuk 2:14 (NIV)
That promise will be fulfilled. The question is whether you will be part of how it happens.
God knew exactly which generation you would be born into — which nation, which city, which community. None of it was random. All of it positions you to carry His purpose into spaces only you can reach.
Rise and Be the Church
The church was never meant to be a retreat center. It was always meant to be a launch pad.
The local church, with all its imperfections, all its diversity, all the beautiful mess of many members working together — is the body of Christ in the earth. And the body of Christ was sent, just as Jesus was sent, into the world. Not to condemn it. Not to separate from it. Not to watch it from a comfortable distance and lament its decay. But to bring light into it, truth into it, healing into it, and the transforming power of the gospel of Jesus Christ into every corner of it.
This is what you are part of. Not just a congregation. Not just a ministry. Not just a movement. You are part of the Church of the Living God- the blood-bought, Spirit-filled, called-and-commissioned people of God — and you are placed in this moment in history with a mandate that has never been revoked: go, make disciples, bear God’s image, and be the epicenter.
You were born to change the world. Not someday. Now.
The local church was never meant to be a retreat center. It was always meant to be a launch pad. You are the church- and you were sent.
