We are continuing our new series on “Covenant Connections.” Let’s look at this verse again: John 13:34,35 (ESV), “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love one for another.”
Jesus came to earth to not only save us, but to show us HOW to love God and others. We might need to Adjust & Repair!

Genesis 50:20 (NIV), “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”
Last week we learned:
- The antidote to trauma is relationship.
- The Church Is The Agent to Heal and Grow.
- The Church is how God moves in the earth (Eph 1:18-23).
- Seeing the Church from Heaven’s perspective: He still calls Her His Bride (Eph 5:25-32; Rev 21:9).
- The Gospel reconciles sinners to God and to each other in the Church (Eph 2:19).
- The Gospel is being worked out in real lives and real relationships (Eph 3:9-11).
- Your spiritual family is eternal.
- Spiritual activity is not only relating to God, but also to each other.
Jesus came to earth to not only save us, but to show us “how” to love God and others… “Connection” is where two things are fastened together through relationship. So a “covenant connection” is where two are fastened together through relationship enforced by the Spirit of God.
Ephesians 4:16 (KJV), “From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.”
JOINT (Greek) means: “The Fastening.” SUPPLIETH (Greek) means: “a contribution, to minister nourishment to.”
Ephesians 4:14-16 (Message), “No prolonged infancies among us, please. We’ll not tolerate babes in the woods, small children who are an easy mark for impostors. God wants us to grow up, to know the whole truth and tell it in love — like Christ in everything. We take our lead from Christ, who is the source of everything we do. He keeps us in step with each other. His very breath and blood flow through us, nourishing us so that we will grow up healthy in God, robust in love.”
According to the Word of God, and in particular this scripture, we won’t have “healthy churches” until we have “healthy” relationships with each other!
We’ve got to get this right…
The world will know God by us (believers), by our love for one another!
John 13:34,35 (ESV), “A new commandment (GR = injuction, authoritative prescription) I give to you, that you love (GR = agapeo = divine love) one another; just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this ALL people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love one for another”
The Church is designed to grow & build itself up in love, as each person does it part. That’s a big responsibility on every one in the church. If you don’t do your part, you could be holding the Church up… actually holding God up from moving in the earth.
We are a “community of believers” that connect on the common ground of covenant with Christ to bring His plan & promises into fruition…
