We are beginning a new series called; “The Family of God – Creating Connection,” let’s take a look at 1 Samuel 18:1-4 (KJV),

And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father’s house. Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.”

The 3 C’s of a Covenant Relationship:

  1. Cultivated
  2. Connected
  3. Carrier

Cultivated means: to take steps to grow something.

David— could not possess his kingdom without Jonathan. Ruth— no Boaz without Naomi. Elisha— could not receive a “double portion” without Elijah. Jesus— could not go fulfill His call without a John who had prepared the way…

Without the right people in our life will never fulfill God’s purposes for our life. NO ONE succeeds or fulfills purpose alone! These are connections that God ordained to release His glory.

In the book of Nehemiah, we see in CH3 where “the power of next” (contact & connection) allows the children of God to accomplish in 52 days what they had tried previously to do over 90 years.

“Succeeding” at any endeavor is dependent on the nature and quality of your relationships (the power of next). Failure in one’s life to accomplish BIG THINGS has often been a result of failure to understand this principle.

Who am I in contact with and connected to? Who I am “next to” will have influence and impact on my life:

  • My achievements
  • My success

“To be next to” – 1. To be adjacent to; 2. To be near; 3. To be close to you. When you are close, you have “contact.” Contact is where connection is made, through connection, impartation occurs! Show me who is close (or next) to you, and I will show you what is going into you:

  • Their attitude
  • Their thoughts
  • Their view
  • Their spirit

1 Corinthians 6:14, “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?”

Contact creates connection; connection creates impartation, which determines output. What comes out of me is a result of what is going into me… Relationship is the currency of the kingdom and the network of life.

It is spiritually strategic to be connected to the right people – to make “covenant connection!” It’s important to clarify: covenant means mutual agreement between two or more parties.

That is an okay definition… but you can just as adequately say “contract.” One major difference though:

  1. By nature, contracts are legal and binding
  2. Covenants are spiritual and liberating
  3. Contracts are sealed on paper

So a “covenant connection” is where two are fastened together through relationship enforced by the Spirit of God!
