“Pillars of Faith” INTRODUCTION
“If you grew up in a Christian home, you might remember singing, “Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong. They are weak, but He is strong.” Or perhaps you sang, “The B-I-B-L-E, yes, that’s the book for me. I stand alone on the Word of God. The B-I-B-L-E!” These simple yet profound songs are more than childhood memories; they are foundational truths that point us to the heart of our faith.
It’s time to get back to the Word of God. It’s time to go beyond having a bit of an idea of what God’s Word says, and actually know—comprehend and apply—what God’s Word says. In these times, when the world seems to be shifting sands, the Bible remains our solid rock. It is the eternal, unchanging, and living Word of God, ready to guide us, sustain us, and transform us.
In the following pages, we will journey through the pillars of the Christian faith, exploring the timeless truths that have anchored believers throughout the ages. We will delve into the richness of God’s Word, discovering how it speaks to every area of our lives. Whether you are a seasoned believer or just beginning your walk with Christ, this book will equip you with a deeper understanding of the foundations of our faith, a renewed passion for the Bible, and a hunger to experience God in every area of your life.”
It’s Time to Rebuild
Many nations in the world are in distress and are experiencing reproach from within and without. The United States is not alone in its struggles. A growing number of Christian churches have allowed the current culture to infiltrate their doctrines and are changing to conform to the world. Paul was adamant when he wrote, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect” (Romans 12:2, NLT).
The enemy has attacked the foundations of our faith, our souls (mind, will, and emotions), and our churches with fear, intimidation, manipulation, deceit, and greed. If those who consider themselves to be blood-bought, born-again Christians continue to do nothing, I will remain deeply concerned for the fate of our nation, the nations of the world, and future generations.
Instead of complaining that we need change, we need to be the change. In our personal lives and in our culture, we’ve got to rebuild our foundation of faith. But how do we do that? God’s Word is our answer!
Our God is a miracle-working God! He’s still the God who can fill ditches with water without wind or rain, part the seas, and cause your enemies to scatter, paving the way to your victory! God has already given us everything we need based on the covenant by the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. We just need to come to a greater understanding of what He has given us and learn how to apply it in our lives.
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may
become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
—2 Peter 1:3-4, ESV
Peter is making an extraordinary claim: In Jesus Christ, you will find everything that you need for life.
Do you know what God’s Word says? Do you know why you believe what you believe? It’s so easy to rely on 30-second Instagram reels or two-minute YouTube videos instead of reading or listening to the Word of God.
In His Word, God warned us that in the last days many would fall away from the truth. He warned us that many would seek out preachers and teachers who would tell them what they wanted to hear instead of what they needed to hear—the truth!
Our world is in upheaval, and we need discernment in this hour. God’s Word is your answer! I mean it wholeheartedly. The one thing that has been constant in my life through every trial and tribulation, every joy and success, has been the Word of God.
The B-I-B-L-E… yes, that’s the book for me!
God’s Word reveals God’s will, God’s character, and God’s plans. As a believer, it is imperative for you to know God, know His Word, and understand why you believe what you believe.
That’s why God led me to write this book. I want to help you. This book will guide you through the main tenets of the Christian faith that every believer in Jesus Christ needs to know. These are the foundations of our faith. This is not based upon man’s opinions but uses God’s Word as our ultimate authority.
Each of these tenets builds a foundation to help us know and understand what we believe and why we believe it. They build upon each other—creating an impenetrable foundation on which we activate our faith to bring forth tangible change in our lives, the lives of others, our nation, and the world. For example, once you understand who our heavenly Father is and His character, then you can better understand Jesus and why His sacrifice was necessary. Once you understand Jesus, then you can understand the Holy Spirit and why He is an integral part of our daily lives.
Some Christians have never been taught these pillars and thus have a limited understanding of them. It would be like building a brick wall but leaving out some bricks. If you do that, then there are holes in the wall. Holes, in this sense, represent a weakness or an easy access point for the enemy.
It’s time to get back to basics. Throughout the pages of this book, you will learn:
- God really loves you.
- You can trust the Bible as the eternal Word of God.
- You really can be forgiven and move past your deepest regrets.
- Why baptism after a conversion of faith is important.
- What is spiritual warfare and how it can affect your life.
My heart for you is that you will learn things you may not have known, be reminded of things you may have forgotten, or simply be encouraged by the truth because God’s Word is your answer.
As you begin to understand these pillars of our faith, if there are any breaches in your faith foundation, you will have the tools to restore it and repair the walls of your soul. As you fix any breach where the enemy has gained access, you will experience a tangible change in your life.
God wants to help you rebuild your foundation. Why? Because God wants you to be able to activate, access, and appropriate every promise He has made to you in His Word! God is not holding out on you!
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.
—Psalm 84:11, ESV, emphasis mine
God gave you the plan and access to every miracle and promise you would ever need in His Word. Jesus, through His death and resurrection, gave you authority over the enemy, and the Holy Spirit is with you at all times to guide you through wisdom, revelation, and understanding.
Friend, it’s crucial to grasp the pillars of the Bible because these foundational truths ground you in your faith and empower you to influence others. In a world filled with shifting sands of opinion and confusion, getting back to the basics of God’s Word is essential to restoring your spiritual foundations. The Bible reminds you to be ready, in season and out, to share the hope within you (2 Timothy 4:2). You are called to be an influencer, a world-changer, and a history-maker! You are called to be a soul-winner. But to walk in that calling, you will need more than just head knowledge of scripture; you need a deep, heart-rooted belief and knowing that God’s Word is your ultimate answer.
Let’s dive into the truth and let it transform us so we can help others build their lives on the solid rock of God’s promises.
