God’s Word Is Your Answer
As we see in 1 Peter 2:9, all believers are called to be priests:
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
We must do what we can to ensure that the Word of God is not lost or compromised. How do we do that? We do that by actively placing the Word of God at the center of our lives, our relationships, our marriages, families, churches, workplaces, and our homes.
We can do that through many ways, including personal devotions, meditating on a recent sermon, family worship, praying the Word of God daily, and committing to a Bible reading plan. It is time for the entire priesthood of believers to recover the Word of God in their lives.
Doing this will accomplish many incredible things- but most important: If you find the Word of God, you will inevitably also find the greatest and most precious gift of all— Jesus. And we find that loving God means pursuing Him. It starts with a hungry heart and passion for Him, and is always synonymous with obedience. Obedience is the “offspring” of loving God.
2 John 6, “And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands.”
Deuteronomy 11, “Love the Lord your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always.”
John 14:15, “If you love me, you will obey what I command.”
1 John 2:17, “The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever”. The will of God is revealed in the Word of God. The only way to know His will for your life is to know His Word. I declare, “You will NOT be veiled, or ignorant by the devices of the devil to keep you deceived from the Word of God!” The Word is what makes the difference…
Psalm 119, “…You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed. Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees! Then I would not be put to shame when I consider all your commands. I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws. I will obey your decrees; do not utterly forsake me. How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Praise be to you, O Lord; teach me your decrees. With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.“
The Word needs good ground though: Mark 4:3-20 (NIV), ”Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, multiplying thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times.” Then Jesus said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables so that,”‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’” Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? The farmer sows the word. Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown.”
- How is your ground?
- How is your heart?
- What do we do to protect our hearts?
The Bible already told us… God’s Word is Your Answer!
Proverbs 4:23-5:1, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. Put away perversity from your mouth; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm. Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.”
Stand only on that which is firm, solid, that which will last. Build on Jesus (Matthew 16:18), “upon this Rock will I build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
Romans 10:17, “So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” Faith is laid upon you hearing (receiving understanding / knowledge) by the Word of God. What builds the foundation is to hear and receive the Word of God.
Your quality of life is directly proportionate to your knowledge of God. How do you get knowledge? Proverbs 1:7, “The fear (reverence, respect) of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
So knowledge begins with obedience to his Word. James 1:22, “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
Hosea 4:6, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge, because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me; seeing thou has forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.”
Lack of knowledge will destroy you. His Word Will NEVER Fail You! I feel an urgency to tell you to “Recover and Restore the Word of God in Your Life!”
God’s objective is that the Word be made flesh… ultimately that everything preached and heard would come to “life.” Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
Perfect faith cannot exist when the will of God is unknown. I know the will of God by the Word of God. My faith is developed by the Word that is deposited.
Mark 4:14-20 (AMP), “The sower sows the Word. The ones along the path are those who have the Word sown [in their hearts], but when they hear, Satan comes at once and [by force] takes away the message which is sown in them. And in the same way the ones sown upon stony ground are those who, when they hear the Word, at once receive and accept and welcome it with joy; And they have no real root in themselves, and so they endure for a little while; then when trouble or persecution arises on account of the Word, they immediately are offended (become displeased, indignant, resentful) and they stumble and fall away. And the ones sown among the thorns are others who hear the Word; Then the cares and anxieties of the world and distractions of the age, and the pleasure and delight and false glamour and deceitfulness of riches, and the craving and passionate desire for other things creep in and choke and suffocate the Word, and it becomes fruitless. And those sown on the good (well-adapted) soil are the ones who hear the Word and receive and accept and welcome it and bear fruit–some thirty times as much as was sown, some sixty times as much, and some [even] a hundred times as much.”
What builds the foundation in your life, in a marriage, in a nation… is to hear and receive the Word of God. Faith is not contagious, it’s a personal experience, which is born in your life, measured by your ability to withstand opposition.
You can only do this effectively when you are equipped with the Word of God. (example: Matthew 4) Jesus was in the wilderness and tempted by the devil… and He always responded with “It is written…”
Stand on “it is written”, because the bible declares in Psalm 18:30, “As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.” Psalm 119:89, “Your word, O Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.” Isaiah 55:11, “so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”
To discover and have success in life we must connect and navigate our lives with God through His Word. The Psalmist writes, “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path” (Psalm 119:105).
What you know determines how you live. When you know God loves you, desires only the best for you, believes in you, watches over you, and is always mindful of you, that is when you can begin to live with the confidence of someone who knows who he is . . . and where he is going.
