Eternity, Partnership and Spiritual Dominion
A New Teaching Article On World Improvement
Go out into all the world, and preach the gospel.. Mark 16:15
As we contemplate ways we can change our world this month, I want to go with you to talk about the "why" behind it. Why does God call us to be world changers and history makers? Why does God want us to spread the news of eternal life through Jesus Christ alone, to all of creation? Why didn't God, who made and formed the earth out of nothing, do all these things Himself? He certainly could have if He had chosen to!
Only God knows the full answer to that question, but the answers we do know are found in His Word. Come with me as we explore why we have a part in changing the world around us. The major reasons I want to share with you today are eternity, partnership, and spiritual dominion.
Eternity
Life is so short here on this earth. The book of James says that our life is but a vapor and then its gone. Since the majority of our soul's existence will actually be somewhere in eternity, we need to keep an eternal perspective.
Our sin and the sin of Adam are the cause of our debt, and death is the payment for it (Genesis 2:17; Romans 5:12, 6:23). The destination for those sentenced to death is hell, but God paid our way to heaven with Jesus' blood. The Bible shows us that before the world began, God intended to reveal Himself to man in a way that would free Him to relate to us on the basis of His grace, not on our innocence or ability to be faithful to Him (Rev 13:8).
Our primary purpose for going into the world and putting sneakers to the gospel is to pull the lost into His grace. People need to know that there is a Redeemer who paid our debt and gives us eternal life.
Partnership
Going into our world with God's message of salvation is part of a divine partnership. God could have showed people Jesus any number of ways, but He chooses to use us as vessels of honor, holy and set apart, and prepared for every good work (1 Tim 2:21).
God wants you to be a part of His awesome plan. We are co-laborers with Christ. (1 Cor. 3:9). God wants you to take part in seeing lives changed by the glory of God. God never intended for you to be saved and then just do nothing. If He did, He would have saved you and then killed you! No, God created you for a purpose.
"So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up…" Ephesians 4:11-12 (NIV)
God gave us a calling "to equip His people for works of service.." What is the point of being saved? Part of the point of being saved and destined for heaven is the divine partnership. If we are not seeing lives changed by the using of the gift of God inside of us, we are living unfulfilled. We are designed to preach the gospel in the way God has equipped us to in order to experience abundant life.
Spiritual Dominion
God has given you a territory. God is a God of rank and order. God desires that the message of His love would go out into the earth for reasons of eternal proportion, for reasons of divine partnership and finally that His rule and His kingdom would have the dominion.
From the beginning, God desired that man, under His headship, should have dominion.
"Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth." Genesis 1:28
When mankind fell, it came under the headship of two different masters – God and Satan. Man was given the ability to choose between the two masters. The struggle for dominion between those who serve God and those who serve Satan began at Cain and Abel and still continues today. The climate we live in is a struggle for dominion. World leaders, people in political offices, and people at work struggle for dominion.
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Ephesians 6:12
The Holy Spirit has the ultimate dominion. When He dwells in the heart of a man, great change can begin to spring forth in the earth because of the divine partnership that God ordained. Ultimately, we know that Jesus is the King and His government shall be instituted in the earth.
When you share the good news of Jesus Christ using the gifts God gave you, you are spreading the kingdom, the rule and the reign of Christ!
We were made to change the world we live in for the glory of God! This month, we are meditating on "World Improvement." Today we talked about some of the "why" behind the "what" - eternity, partnership and dominion. God has called us all to be world changers and history makers. His heart is longing after souls. His primary concern is that people spend their eternity with Him. (God is "..not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.." – 2 Peter 3:9b) God always intended that we have a part to play in His plan. He wants us to have the amazing experience of divine partnership with Him.
God's ultimate intention is that the kingdom of God has dominion and rule on earth. Every time we reach out to someone on God's behalf, we are promoting the dominion of God. Won't you play your part in the greatest story ever written?
